Your pivot is one of the few machines that remains outside in all weather conditions, day after day, throughout every season. Despite an unusual winter, your pivot has endured the harsh, unpredictable shifts in temperature, wind, ice, hail, and the wear and tear from animals. With spring just around the corner, now is the time to get it ready for action.

Preventative maintenance is critical to minimize malfunctions and extend the life of your center pivot and your investment, thus helping to reduce breakdowns and costly downtime.

Proactive Maintenance: The Off-Season Advantage

Regular maintenance is always a good practice. To avoid interruptions to your growing season, the optimal time for completing this essential work is during the off-season.

Checklist: Before You Start Your Pivot

Spring is a pivotal time to check and ensure your system is ready for the growing season ahead.

• Gearboxes:  Inspect your center drive and wheel gearboxes for condensation. Be sure to drain any condensation and refill them with the appropriate lubricant, which can be purchased from your Valley dealer.

• Electrical Ground & Dangers:  Check your system's electrical ground. Look for structural or electrical damage that may have been caused by storms or animals.

• Pivot Center:  Inspect your pivot pad and all anchor bolts. Grease the pivot zerks below the collector ring.

• Waterline & Sprinklers:  Examine boots, clamps, gaskets and lower-pressurized drains. Inspect goosenecks, drops, regulators, sprinkler heads and nozzles.

• Tires & Bearings:  Inspect the inflation of each tire and the wheel lug nuts. Refer to the owner's manual for required tire specifications, or contact us for assistance with filling the tires.

• System Alignment:  Check your microswitches and alignment.
